- Call to order at: 7:03 p.m. by Chair Niles. Quorum - 20 present
- Motion to accept minutes of previous meeting with changes made: M. Sewall/D. White Vote - all, but one abstention from W. Pawelkiewicz (he was not present at the previous meeting)
- Treasurer's Report: Balance: $1,750.00 with deduction of $250.00 for the Chair's ticket for the Bailey dinner, $150.00 donation to the Windham Area Poetry Project sponsored by Curbstone Press of Willimantic to sponsor a poetry page in the events program (program made available for all to read). A $100.00 donation was received from M. Sewall. Motion to accept Treasurer's Report: W. Pawelkiewicz/J. Underwood Vote - unanimous
- Correspondence: Letter from candidate for the second congressional district, Gary Collins, thanking the committee for allowing him to come speak to the group.
- Guest Speaker #1: Secretary of State, Susan Bysiewicz reported on the new developments in the Secretary of State's office and Voter Registration. Long discussion ensued regarding the issue of the polling places being moved in Willimantic and Windham. Ms. Bysiewicz said she would assist us in any way that she could. - Chair Niles recognized Yolanda Negrón for having been chosen for the Windham Region United Way's Maurice Heon Volunteer of the Year Award.
- A meeting will take place with Nancy Wyman, State Party Chair, Susan Johnson, Dawn Niles and others to form a Second District Redistricting Committee to ensure that redistricting is done in a fair manner for our district.
- Guest Speaker #2: Shawn Fisher from Ashford, another candidate interested in the second congressional district seat.
- Platform Committee Report: The committee has not yet met. V. Rayhall said a report would be available for the following meeting.
- Upcoming Elections: All candidates interested in running for any elected office (including those who are up for re-election); need to inform the Chair of their interest by June's meeting. If there is more than one candidate interested in the First Selectman's seat or any seat on the Board of Selectman, Board of Education, etc., then this will cause a primary to occur in September. Windham Board of Selectmen - 5 seats for Willimantic/2 seats for Windham, Board of Finance - 2, Board of Education - 2 incumbants/1 extra, ZBA - 1, ZBA Alternate - 1, ZBA Alternates' Alternate - 2, Board of Assessment Appeals - 3.
- M. Sewall has offered to help final candidates to do their campaign materials on the web, etc. REMINDER: He has put together a website (funded by W. Pawelkiewicz) - WinDemocrats.Org.
- Dropout Rate Committee: T. Lambert to chair committee. Members: D. Rayhall, H. Clements, S. Johnson and Michael Paulhus.
- Raffle: Only eight individuals have returned their tickets (with the money). DO NOT FORGET TO BRING YOUR TICKETS TO THE NEXT MEETING!
- Fundraiser: May 18th from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Windham Textile and History Museum. Invitations have gone out - donations only, in celebration of our frogs.
- New Business: Michael Paulhus announced that John Lescoe would make his announcement as to whether or not he will seek re-election on Thursday at 8:00 a.m. in Town Hall.
- Polling Places: W. Sayers stated that the Windham Center Fire House will remain and the Elks Club is working on making repairs to try to become accessible.
- Guest Speaker #3: State Senator Donald Williams addressed the committee
- Budget Referendum: W. Sayers reminded everyone of the budget referendum.
- Next meeting: June 4th at 7:00 p.m. at the VFW.
